In this week’s post we’re talking about the most relevant and exciting events in the TV industry’s calendar. These events are a fantastic forum where content makers and the organisations who buy it are brought together.

1. Realscreen Summit, Washington, DC, USA. Next event: January 27-30, 2015

The Realscreen Summit is now in its 17th year. Realscreen stands out as it’s one of the biggest events of this kind to be dedicated to unscripted entertainment. This is an important networking event that many commissioning editors are expected to attend.

The event puts great focus on facilitating connections between content makers and buyers. There are speed pitching sessions, mentoring programs and a special ’30 Minutes with…’ sessions which are limited to 40 delegates. This year’s event included speakers from Lifetime, FremantleMedia and OWN (Opera Winfrey Network).

2. MIPCOM, Cannes, France. Next event: October 13-16, 2014

MIPCOM is for entertainment content on all platforms, not just television. It draws 13,500 participants from 100 countries and packs in 50 sessions and keynote speeches over 4 days as well as 5 floors of exhibition space. Past participating companies included STUDIOCANAL, Netflix, BBC, Al Jazeera Network and Lionsgate to name but a very few.

Notable conferences coming up at this year’s event include Digital Distribution: Expanding Horizons and Film to TV: Connecting with New Audiences. Additionally James Murdoch (of Fox and BSkyB) will be the opening speaker of the keynote series.

3. NATPE Europe Event, Prague, Czech Republic. Next Event: June, 2015

This year’s NATPE Europe has just passed and for anyone who was there you’ll know that it was quite an event. NATPE Europe is the companion event to the National Association of TV Program Executives (NATPE)’s other annual event held in Miami in January. The European version provides European-based media buyers and sellers with their own marketplace.

This is the first year that the event was held in Prague after moving from its previous home of Budapest. The event saw around 6500 TV professionals come together. The type of content under discussion covered both movies and TV series including dramas and telenovelas.

The event, held over 4 days, hosted hundreds of exhibitors, showcased the best of European talent with 2 days of studio screenings and created a platform for discussion.
