Take 1 awarded the DPP Committed to Sustainability mark
10th November 2020
Next PostBroadcast transcription, translation and access services provider, Take 1, has been awarded the DPP Committed to Sustainability mark, demonstrating the organisation’s ongoing commitment to ecologically sound practices both in the UK and the Americas.
The DPP Committed to Sustainability Programme was launched in November 2019 to celebrate and promote sustainability across the media industry. In order to qualify, companies complete a self-assessment checklist and submit supporting evidence detailing current energy consumption, waste and emissions as well as future plans and policies. Successful applicants are awarded a score out of five and are re-evaluated every two years.
Take 1 exceeded the industry-standard score for a first attempt due to the company already having a number of environmentally friendly practices in place, including appointing an international sustainability team, developing a staff awareness programme, using zero waste to landfill suppliers and switching to 100% renewable energy providers. The company’s sustainability policy details how they plan to reduce energy use, paper and packaging, general waste and travel-associated carbon emissions by 10% each in 2021 – but these targets actually represent a much higher reduction if you consider that current consumption in these areas is already significantly lower than normal due to international travel restrictions and Take 1 embracing flexible working.
“There’s a very real risk that sustainability gets put on the back burner because of everything else that’s going on in the world right now,” said Take 1 CEO, Louise Tapia. “But, if there’s a silver lining to 2020 it’s that the reduction in emissions and waste has given our planet a small reprieve. We’re committed to keeping these levels low and raising awareness about the importance of sustainable business practices – joining the DPP’s Committed to Sustainability Programme is an expression of that intent.”
“We’re delighted that Take 1 has joined an increasing number of companies that are demonstrating their fantastic commitment to building an environmentally sustainable media industry,” said DPP CEO, Mark Harrison. “They’re helping our whole industry to drive towards continuous improvement and good practice.”
